Installation, Use and Safety Information

Installation space and recess requirements

  • The floor must support the appliance plus an additional load of approx. 218 kg to 544 kg of food (depending on model; this appliance belongs to the Monolith range).
  • The floor should be level; the appliance must be supported or levelled at floor level so that ventilation openings remain clear.
  • Recess dimensions at the installation location must be measured correctly; the power socket must be correctly positioned and easily accessible, not located behind the appliance.
  • Monolith appliances are designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm using stainless steel or customer-specific panels.
  • Recess carcass walls and top should line up flush with the appliance at a depth of at least 102 mm from the outside edge and be at least 16 mm thick.
  • Because the unit recess is partially visible when the door is opened, the inside of the unit should match the surface at top and sides with a minimum depth of 76 mm.
  • The depth of Monolith appliances is 610 mm, allowing installation in standard 610 mm deep units or deeper 635 mm cut-outs.
  • Installations behind the appliance are not possible.
  • The adjustable feet are fully retracted at the stated minimum height; they are raised from the front to bring the appliance into contact with the anti-tipping device.
  • To achieve a minimal plinth panel height of 102 mm, the adjustable feet must be raised by 6 to 8 mm; they can be raised by a maximum of 19 mm for higher plinth panels.
  • The anti-tipping device at the base must be secured to the floor or wall for secure mounting.
  • The appliance should be left to stand for one hour in the installation location before switching on, so that fluids in the coolant and lubrication system can distribute evenly.

Ventilation and door spacing

  • Monolith appliances are ventilated entirely via the plinth panel; the plinth grill must not be obstructed.
  • Door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor.
  • Spacers included in the scope of supply must be fitted to the appliance and door to separate warm outgoing air from incoming fresh air.
  • The appliance must be installed so that doors (including handles) do not bump into adjacent cupboards, work surfaces, walls or other elements.
  • For a 90 ° door opening (limited by the included 90 ° door opening limiter), a minimum spacing of 76 mm is required from adjoining elements.
  • The maximum factory-set door opening angle is 115 °; this can be limited to 90 ° by inserting a peg into the hinge.
  • The minimum permitted gap between door panels is 3 mm.
  • If door panel thickness exceeds 19 mm and collisions occur, reducing panel thickness, repositioning adjacent elements or using a stopper is recommended.

Side-by-Side installation options

  • The appliance can be installed individually with hinge on the left or right (this model is supplied right-hinged).
  • Side-by-Side installation with other Liebherr Monolith refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets is possible using a Side-by-Side set when spacing between appliances is less than 102 mm.
  • If installed next to non-Liebherr appliances, condensation or damage to the Liebherr appliance may occur.
  • For Side-by-Side installation in separate units with a dividing wall thinner than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is required.
  • To prevent door and handle collisions when doors open in the same direction, a minimum spacing of 102 mm between units is necessary.
  • For back-to-back or centre-opening configurations using a 90 ° limiter, a minimum spacing of 154 mm may be required to avoid handle collisions.
  • Side-by-Side sets include a sidewall heater, metal brackets, screws and decorative trim to cover gaps of approx. 6–8 mm.
  • Use of a Side-by-Side set increases energy consumption by 0.4 kWh/24 h for two units and 0.8 kWh/24 h for three units.

Water connection and InfinitySpring

  • Appliances fitted with InfinitySpring must be connected to a water supply.
  • Water pressure must be between 2.8 and 6.2 bar.
  • Only the supply hose delivered with the appliance must be used.
  • Water quality must comply with local drinking water regulations.
  • If water hardness is high, a water softener is recommended; if solids such as sand are present, a filter must be used.
  • A shut-off valve must be installed between the hose line and the mains water supply; it must not be installed behind the appliance.
  • The water filter for InfinitySpring is located in the front section of the appliance base and must be replaced regularly; an InfinitySwipe alarm indicates when replacement is due.
  • All repairs and work on InfinitySpring must only be undertaken by customer service or other trained individuals.

Electrical and safety requirements

  • The appliance must be operated with alternating current within the permitted voltage and frequency for the relevant country.
  • Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected according to regulations, and not located behind the appliance.
  • The socket must be easily accessible to disconnect the appliance from the mains if necessary.
  • A separate circuit is recommended to prevent defrosting or food spoilage due to failures caused by other appliances.
  • Do not connect the appliance to unearthed power sockets (risk of fatal electric shock).
  • Do not use extension cables or multi-sockets (risk of overheating or fire).
  • Do not connect the appliance using an inverter due to risk of overheating and fire hazard for control electronics.
  • Water connection work must not be performed while the appliance is connected to an electrical socket.
  • The refrigerant circuit has been checked for tightness; the appliance meets applicable safety regulations.

Ambient temperature and climate class

The appliance is designed for operation within specific ambient temperature limits defined by climate class. All refrigerators and freezers in this range have climate class SN–T, meaning they may be operated between 10 °C and 43 °C ambient temperature to achieve optimal cooling performance. The appliance must not be operated outside these ambient temperature ranges.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total capacity of the Liebherr Monolith EKB 9471?

The total volume is 440 litres. Of this, 250.5 litres are available in the refrigerator compartment and 190.3 litres in the BioFresh compartment, as defined under EU Regulation 2019/2016.

What temperature range can I set in the refrigerator compartment?

The refrigerator temperature can be set between +2 °C and +7 °C. Defrosting is automatic, and an electronic InfinitySwipe control system, together with the automatic SuperCool function, manages precise cooling performance.

How does BioFresh-Plus help keep food fresh for longer?

BioFresh-Plus maintains temperatures slightly above 0 °C with controllable humidity in special safes. Fruit, vegetables, meat and dairy products keep fresh for considerably longer than in a conventional refrigeration compartment. A third BioFresh safe can reach -2 °C, ideal for fresh fish, seafood or quickly cooled drinks. All BioFresh safes feature SoftTelescopic self-closing with gentle cushioned closure and InfinityBeam LED illumination.

What do I need to know about the water connection for InfinitySpring?

InfinitySpring requires a fixed water connection with pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar, using only the supply hose delivered with the appliance. Water quality must meet local drinking water regulations. A shut-off valve must be installed (not behind the appliance). If water hardness is high, a water softener is recommended; if solids are present, a separate filter must be used. The integrated water filter in the plinth must be replaced regularly.

Can this refrigerator be installed Side-by-Side with other appliances?

Yes. Monolith appliances, including the EKB 9471, are designed for Side-by-Side installation with other Liebherr refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets. If the spacing between appliances is less than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is required. A sidewall heater in the set helps prevent condensation, and decorative trim covers the gap between units. Installation next to non-Liebherr appliances may lead to condensation or damage to the Liebherr unit.

What ambient temperature range is suitable for operating the appliance?

The appliance has climate class SN–T, meaning it is designed to operate in ambient temperatures from 10 °C to 43 °C. It must not be operated outside this ambient temperature range to ensure optimal cooling performance and efficiency.
