Installation, Usage and Safety Information

Installation space and recess requirements

  • The floor must be capable of bearing the weight of the appliance plus approximately 218–544 kg of food, depending on model net capacity.
  • The floor should be level and the appliance must be supported or levelled at floor level so that ventilation openings remain clear.
  • Recess dimensions must be correctly measured and the power socket positioned correctly and easily accessible.
  • Recess top and carcass walls should line up flush with the appliance at a depth of at least 102 mm from the outside edge and be at least 16 mm thick.
  • Because parts of the recess are visible when the door is opened, finishes matching the kitchen unit surface are recommended with a minimum depth of 76 mm.
  • Monolith appliances are designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm using stainless steel or customer-specific panels.
  • Other door panel materials made of wood up to 30 mm thickness may be used if the maximum panel weight (30 kg) is not exceeded.
  • The depth of the appliance is 610 mm, allowing installation in standard European 610 mm units or deeper 635 mm cut-outs.
  • Installations behind the appliance are not possible.
  • The scope of supply includes decorative trim to cover the gap between the appliance and fitted unit side walls.

Door panels, plinth and door spacing

  • Inset installation door panel: H = 2029 mm, W = 603 mm.
  • Overlay installation door panel: H = 2032 mm (plus top overlap), W = 610 mm (plus side overlaps).
  • Panel thickness must be between 16 mm (minimum) and 30 mm (maximum). For thinner five-piece shaker style panels, shorter screws than those supplied must be used.
  • Maximum door panel weight is 30 kg.
  • A minimum gap of 3 mm between panels must be maintained.
  • Monolith appliances are ventilated entirely via the plinth panel. Door panels must close at least 102 mm above the floor and the plinth grill must not be obstructed.
  • Spacers supplied with the appliance must be fitted to separate warm outgoing air from fresh incoming air.
  • Liebherr stainless steel plinth panels (102 mm high) are available in widths corresponding to the Monolith model and Side-by-Side combinations.
  • To avoid collision with adjoining elements, a minimum spacing of 76 mm must be included for a door opening limited to 90 °.
  • A 115 ° door opening angle is set ex works; it can be limited to 90 ° by using the supplied door opening limiter.
  • Other solutions to prevent collisions include reducing panel thickness if above 19 mm, repositioning adjoining elements or using a stopper.

Side-by-Side installation options

  • The appliance should only be installed next to Liebherr refrigerators, freezers or wine cabinets.
  • Monolith models are designed to be set up Side-by-Side; a Side-by-Side set is necessary if spacing between integrated units is less than 102 mm.
  • The Side-by-Side set includes sidewall heater, metal brackets, screws and decorative trim to cover a 6–8 mm gap.
  • The sidewall heater prevents condensation between closely installed units and requires no additional mains connection; a slot is provided at the rear.
  • Use of the Side-by-Side set increases energy consumption by 0.4 kWh/24 h for two units and 0.8 kWh/24 h for three units.
  • When units are installed Side-by-Side in separate carcasses with a dividing wall thinner than 102 mm, a Side-by-Side set is required.
  • For back-to-back door positioning with a 90 ° limiter and doors opening towards the centre, a minimum dividing wall width of 154 mm is required to avoid handle collisions.

Ventilation and commissioning

  • Ventilation is exclusively via the plinth area; the grill must remain unobstructed at all times.
  • The appliance includes a recess on the rear for routing cables and the water line (if applicable): 25 mm deep and 140 mm high across the full width.
  • To prevent potential damage, the appliance should stand for one hour in the installation location before being switched on, allowing coolant and lubrication fluids to distribute evenly.

Electrical safety and ambient conditions

  • The appliance must be operated using alternating current within the permitted voltage and frequency for the relevant country.
  • Power sockets must be earthed, electrically protected, not located behind the appliance and easily accessible.
  • A separate electrical circuit is recommended to prevent defrosting or food spoilage caused by other appliances.
  • The appliance must not be connected to unearthed sockets, extension cables, multi-sockets or inverters due to risk of electric shock, overheating or fire.
  • The refrigerant circuit has been checked for tightness and the appliance meets applicable safety regulations.
  • The appliance is intended for refrigerating and storing food and for making ice if so equipped (this model’s integrated water dispenser is “no”).
  • The SN–T climate class permits operation between 10 °C and 43 °C ambient temperature.
  • The appliance must not be operated outside the specified ambient temperature range.

InfinitySpring and IceMaker (general Monolith guidance)

Monolith appliances fitted with an InfinitySpring integrated water dispenser or IceMaker must be connected to a water supply with a pressure between 2.8 and 6.2 bar. Only the supply hose delivered with the appliance may be used. Where water hardness is high, a water softener is recommended, and a filter must be used if solids such as sand are present. All devices and systems supplying water must meet regional regulations. All such appliances have a water filter located in the front section of the base and this must be replaced regularly; InfinitySwipe alarms indicate when replacement is due.

Water connection work must not be performed while the appliance is connected to an electrical socket. A shut-off valve must be installed between the hose and the mains water supply and must not be positioned behind the appliance. The connection to the water supply may only be carried out by a trained and licensed plumber. The IceMaker is solely for producing ice cubes in normal household quantities with suitable drinking water. All repairs and work on InfinitySpring or IceMaker must be carried out by customer service or other trained individuals.

Secure mounting and anti-tipping

  • An anti-tipping device positioned at the base of the appliance must be secured to the floor or wall.
  • After positioning in the recess, the adjustable feet are raised from the front so that the appliance contacts the anti-tipping device.
  • To achieve a minimal plinth height of 102 mm, the adjustable feet must be raised by 6–8 mm; for higher plinths, the feet can be raised by up to 19 mm.
  • To prevent tipping, the anti-tipping device must always be fitted in accordance with the installation instructions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the total capacity of the Liebherr Monolith EKB 9271 refrigerator?

The total volume is 335 litres. Of this, 192.9 litres are available in the refrigerator compartment and 142.4 litres in the BioFresh compartment, measured in line with Regulation EU 2019/2016.

What temperature range does the refrigerator offer?

The refrigerator compartment temperature can be set between +2 °C and +7 °C. BioFresh-Plus safes operate at temperatures slightly above 0 °C, and the third BioFresh safe can reach −2 °C for items such as fresh fish and seafood.

How is the EKB 9271 installed in a UK kitchen?

The appliance is designed for flush installation in units with a depth of 635 mm using an inset or overlay door panel. Recess dimensions are 213.4 cm (H) × 61 cm (W) × 63.5 cm (D). The appliance depth is 610 mm, allowing installation into standard 610 mm or deeper 635 mm units. The anti-tipping device must be secured to the floor or wall, and ventilation via the plinth panel must remain unobstructed.

Can the door hinge on the EKB 9271 be reversed?
