Installation and Ventilation Guidance

Proper ventilation is essential for efficient cooling performance, energy consumption and lifespan. Heat generated at the condenser fins on the back of the minibar must be transferred with sufficient airflow to the ambient air.

  • There must be free circulation of air around the cooling unit to prevent build-up of hot air, which would reduce cooling capacity and increase energy consumption.
  • For HiPro absorption minibars, the free ventilation space for incoming air should be at least 150 cm² and for outgoing air at least 200 cm².
  • The air inlet should be positioned below the unit and the air outlet above, with neither placed on the sides; side ventilation must be avoided.
  • Air passing through the ventilation duct must not be warmed by any source of heat.
  • Ventilation should follow a chimney-like flow of air, using arrangements comparable to the schemes labelled A, B, C or D for minibars.
  • Ventilation grills, if used, must have a free opening area for incoming and outgoing air that meets or exceeds the minimum values stated above.
  • The minibar must be placed on a stable surface that is level in both directions.
  • The mains plug or socket must be freely accessible once the minibar has been installed.
  • Do not place the fridge in direct sunlight, or next to a heating radiator, window or curtains.
  • Never cover ventilation grills or slots.

Built-in Cavity Guidelines

When building refrigeration units into furniture, sufficient space for air inlets and outlets and clearance around the cooling unit is required to maintain performance and energy efficiency.

  • As a guideline for Dometic built-in fridges in general, add 15 mm to the product height, 30 mm to the width and 20 mm to the depth to calculate cavity dimensions.
  • The ventilation duct must at least measure 105 mm by the width of the refrigerator for standard absorption, compressor and thermoelectric models.
  • Only the entire cooling unit should project into the ventilation duct.
  • For typical built-in applications, a minimum distance of 20 mm between the cooling unit and the furniture wall is advised.
  • It is advised that a hole is cut out of the back of the furniture where the fridge is situated to maximise airflow.

Product warranty is only valid if the minibar is installed, used and maintained as described in the installation and product manuals and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.
