General - This hotel is situated in the small village of Hovingham, near york. The village has a history stretching back to roman times. The hotel overlooks the village green and was built in 1841 by sir william worsley. It is still owned and run by the worsley family. On entering the hotel the interior is very welcoming. The furnishings are traditional and there are cosy log fires. The sitting rooms are very gracious and tranquil. There is also a comfortable bar which is open to the locals. The restaurant is very Grand, with its eighteenth century paintings and fresh flowers, and has a reputation for imaginative food prepared from fresh local produce. The bedrooms and all individually decorated to a very tasteful standard and provide guests with every comfort. This is a very wecoming hotel with attentive staff. 25th october 1994
