• Exterior - This high rise, quite stark Soviet style building is redolent of the seventies’ Communist Bloc architects’ lack of panache. It is functional, lacks any real flair, but fits in well with the surrounding flats and residential apartment blocks.
• General - 0103AP
• Lobby - The large lobby is also typical of this style, with large metal framed windows, severe marble flooring and seating areas organized in serried ranks along the window areas. The colours are quite sombre and the ceilings low, but this all adds to the experience. Although the lobby does little to pander to cosmetic frivolity, it is clean and fucntional.
• Location - This property is located in a green area on the South Eastern edge of the Borisova Gradina Park, opposite the Embassy of the Russian Federation, in the outskirts of Sofia.
• Restaurant - The restaurant is on the ground floor to the rear of the lobby area, and is one of the finest examples of Soviet kitsch in the city, especially the lamp fittings and the frescoes dominating the upper parts of the walls. There is little natural light and the decor might be said to be rather “busy” with the swirling browns and beiges evident elsewhere in this property, but again it is worth the visit for itself.
• Rooms - The rooms are clean, comfortable and basic. They are a real throwback to Seventies Soviet Realism, almost a parody of themselves, with the garish oranges, browns and reds. The rooms are looking tired and somewhat threadbare in places, but they are worth the experience as such styles are fast disappearing (some would say for the better....)
