This sumptuous hotel is sitiuated slightly outside of the main town on a small hill that allows the hotel to look across the valley to the mountains on the otherside, while Cortina D'ampezzo nestles in the slight valley. The hotel infact sits within its own 9 hole golf course and in more ways than one the hotel has the best position in town. The exterior looks positively baronial, with grey, thick walls, spires and mock ramparts. This is the hotel where earnest heningway, roman polanski, roger moore (agent 007 - james bond), often spend or used to spend their ski-ing holidays, and naturally the hotel likes to advertize the fact. The main lobby and reception area are pleasantly decorated but it seems that time has taken its toll and a refurbishment would not be out of place. However, there are large fireplaces and soft furnishings all around that must be quite a comfort on a cold winter's night. The restaurant too thoughsumptuously furnished, is also looking tired, and the samr could be said of the rooms, which although they provide all the amenties one would expect, all seem rather dated in their appearance. 10 dec 92 |

The Bellevue is a typically 'Alpine' structure, with a steep roof and wooden panelling adorning all its outer walls. It is situated just beyond the pedestrianised zone of cortina, very close to all the town's attractions. As with most of cortina, the hotel offers magnificent views over the dolomite range of mountains. Inside, the furbishings are ornate and continue the traditional feel of the exterior, with wood being the dominant material throughout the hotel. This creates an extremly homely and welcoming atmosphere which carrys through to the large bedrooms, each with ample wardrobe space, thick carpets, immaculate bathrooms, tv and minibar. The dark panellings around these rooms also add a touch of privacy. Breakfast is taken in the bar, a compact area but again one which is very nicely furnished and which leads to an outdoor terrace with more stunning views. The restaurant is downstairs and the furniture here is much lighter, giving the impression of far more space for dining guests. There is ample Parking underneath the hotel, which overall is a very impressive superior First property. 12jan96 |
